At Longshaw Junior School, we are delighted to benefit from Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, which provides additional funding to help schools give children greater access to fresh fruit and vegetables. The national programme is designed to help children enjoy more fruit and vegetables and develop healthier habits.
Through the programme, participating schools receive funding that can be used to purchase fruit and vegetables for pupils. Funding is based on pupil numbers, enabling schools to provide additional healthy food throughout the school day.
For our school, this funding provides an important opportunity to promote healthy choices and ensure that all children have access to nutritious food. Fruit and vegetables can be offered as healthy snacks, incorporated into breakfast or lunchtime provision, used within learning activities, or shared with families where appropriate.
The programme complements our wider commitment to supporting pupils’ health, wellbeing and readiness to learn. It also gives children opportunities to experience and try a wider variety of fruit and vegetables while developing their understanding of healthy lifestyles.
We are extremely grateful to Tesco for this valuable support and the positive contribution it makes to the health and wellbeing of our pupils.
